ALIEN life may already exist on Earth – us.

There’s an idea – common, but not popular in scientific circles – that all life on Earth was seeded from comets, asteroids or meteors which struck the planet and contained the building blocks necessary to kickstart the evolutionary process. It’s called “panspermia” and it caused an all-in boffin barney some 15 years ago when several scientists backed claims there was evidence of life in a Martian meteorite found in the Allan Hills in Antarctica. It’s been proven that life can survive in space, just as it’s been proven that the interior of the Mars meteorite never rose above 50C during its journey to Earth. Unfortunately for alien-spotters, those cells can also be found on Earth, so the argument’s never been settled.

Then in July 2001, the rain turned red in India. And not just red – The Hindu claimed witness reports of yellow, green and black rain in the months that followed. The first theory to emerge was that it was simply sand or dust picked up from a desert, but a local physicist, Godfrey Louis, found that under a microscope, the water contained cells that looked like bugs.Five years later, he published a theory suggesting the bugs that turned the rain red in India may have come from a comet that exploded above the Earth and seeded clouds.

Today, after a further four years of studying the cells, joined by a leading panspermia theorist from the UK, Chandra Wickramasinghe, Professor Louis has published claims that they are unlike anything found on Earth. He says the cells – inert at room temperature – begin to reproduce at 121C.Within two hours of being exposed to the heat, “daughter cells appear within the original mother cells and the number of cells in the samples increases with length of exposure”, they say in the new report. While many spores on Earth can survive that kind of extreme heat, none have yet been discovered that can reproduce in those conditions, much less require it to begin reproducing.

The team also found an unusual pattern in the way the cells changed colour under UV light, known as “fluorescence behaviour”.They said it was “in remarkable correspondence” with red emissions from the Red Rectangle planetary nebula some 2300 light years away, “suggesting, though not proving, an extraterrestrial origin”.While the panspermia angle is already being rejected by the scientific community at large, there’s plenty of interest in the final finding of Prof Louis’s team – the cells contain no DNA. ”As a biologist, let me assure you that a cell-sized and shaped organism that reproduces, lives off LB and doesn’t appear to have any nucleic acid template (DNA or RNA) is a revolutionary discovery in and of itself,” one commenter wrote at TechnologyReview.

The only lifeforms that occur on Earth without DNA, according to another commenter, are proteins known as “prions”, best known on Earth as the cause of Mad Cow Disease. The team’s findings are yet to be verified.

Witnesses to the March 1997 mass UFO sightings wave that became known as the Phoenix Lights are coming forward with previously unreported accounts, thanks to the broadcast of American Paranormal: UFOs Over Phoenix on the National Geographic Channel. The result is that a new understanding is forming of the events of that night.

The investigation, conducted by the Phoenix UFO Examiner for Base Communications, presented a broad outline of the still unexplained mass sightings events as detailed by three iconic witnesses: Tim Ley, Mike Fortson and Michael Kryzston. These witnesses characterize both the first wave of shockingly big objects (craft?) that drifted across the state in the 8:00 PM time frame and the more enigmatic and contoversial lights that were observed and recorded around 10:00 south of the greater metropolitan Phoenix area.

The production could not, however, discuss the wide variety of other craft reported, the telepathic contact, the concurrent multiple sightings, the United States Air Force response and other aspects which make the Phoenix Lights, when fully understood, seem like the last real of Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

The extant reports are likely just the tip of a very unusual iceberg. It is estimated that tens of thousands of people observed the variety of unexplained objects on the evening of March 13, 1997—given that the reports covered almost the entire state of Arizona and came in from early evening to early the next morning. In addition to the arrays of lights in the sky videotaped by several witnesses around 10 PM, there were a variety of large craft observed, including square V shaped wings, smooth boomerang shaped wings, triangular or delta craft of various description and circular or oval shaped craft.

Phone calls flooded radio stations, air traffic control and police facilities on the evening of the event and when Phoenix City Councilwoman Frances Barwood announced that her office wanted to know about the sightings, she received over 600 reports.

Unfortunately, an air of official ridicule and denial surrounded the event which likely deterred many from providing an official report. For that matter, other than the National UFO Reporting Center, there was no official Arizona state or other governmental agency where a report could be presented. When the then-Governor Fife Symington publicly ridiculed the witnesses and the press in a press conference in which an aid paraded in a blatantly fake alien costume, those who had come forward, such as Sue Watson, were outraged.

Many others, however, chose not to discuss their observation to avoid the stigma associated with the report of a truly phenomenal event. Only now are witnesses wiling to recount the unbelivable, to themselves, to their friends and to the benefit of society.

The National Geographic channel investigation into the event, which is part of the Mysterious Science series, is a serious look at the implications of the known sightings reports. And those implications are significant.

By correlating witness Tim Ley’s account of his family’s observation of a large silent, slow moving craft in northern Phoenix with a laser topographic scan of the nearby terrain, the size of the giant V shaped craft was determined to be 1500 feet in wingspan and along each leading edge. This is the first time a UFO has been reliably measured.

Working with that information a team of engineers and scientists determined that no known human engineer-able propulsion system could account for the fantastic performance reported by witnesses statewide that night. This leaves the possibility that a significant percentage of the state was hallucinating — and the simpler explanation that thousands of residents of Arizona observed non-human technology on display.

The National Geographic examination is the latest evidence of a shift toward comprehension in place of denial, an effort to move the very nature of the reports out of the realm of the impossible and into the realm of the conceivable.

As a result, new witnesses are coming forward with accounts deemed too fantastic to be made public in the aftermath of the event. The Phoenix UFO Examiner has already received numerous reports by credible individuals of observations made that evening which correlate well with the known observations and investigative work is underway to document them in detail.

It is estimated that perhaps one in ten people who saw the lights in March of 1997 have added their observation to the growing body of information about the phenomenal mass sightings event.

This wealth of unreported observation, which may well include video or film can be the means by which the Phoenix Lights can be more fully understood.

Anyone witnessing anomalous amber lights in formation or large silent structured craft in the March 13, 1997 timeframe is invited to contact the Phoenix UFO Examiner at ufoexaminer@larrylowe.com and add their observation to the growing database of witness reports. HIGHLAND — I did not personally see the UFO, but pictures and reports were on our local news station KTVI Channel 2 in St. Louis, MO. on Sunday night May 11, 2009. Blogs were also on the net concerning this sighting. I wish you would investigate as this area frequently has UFO sightings.

KTVI Report: Some residents in Illinois may have spotted a strange sight in the sky above Highland late Sunday night. Fox 2 received a few emails about some odd-looking lights. Some are going so far as to call the lights a UFO. FOX 2 made several attempts to confirm with the state and city police, but officials say they have not heard anything about the lights. (About 20 MI East of Downtown St. Louis

GRANITE CITY — KTVI Blog (Witness Report): Saturday night my 12 year old son was asleep in his room making noises like he had a bad dream. His dad went in there and asked: “what’s wrong?” His answer was “there is a blue hovering light above me.” He is in his room not outside, but woke up to a blue light and was freaking out. His father assumed that he had played his Xbox 360 so much that the blue hovering disc above him was a dream. I assumed it was a police car that drove by with lights on, but I woke up this morning and see the story on the news. When I called my husband at work this morning and told him what I saw on the news his words were: “You gotta be kidding me!”

Note: The above photo sent to KTVI TV is interesting, but it is unknown what the witness saw. Apparently several reports of the lights were received by KTVI TV. The blog mentioned on the news report could not be found. The witness report apparently occurred late Saturday night (May 9) and not Sunday when the other reports were received. Granite City is about 10 miles northeast of downtown St. Louis. Thanks to William Puckett UFOS Northwest http://ufosnw.com

CHICAGO — The witness reports “It lit up right before my eyes, to the south of me on July 9, 2008, like a fluorescent light and then shut off.” It was closer than anything I have seen so far. It was only for one second at the most and I did get a picture.” Note similarity of both photos. Thanks to MUFON CMS and Ken Pfeifer MUFON N.J., http://www.heavensrangers.com
